We are here in Maribor since Wednesday and the time since we arrived was affected by raining cats and dogs. For MS EVIL racing it’s the first appearance with the new team line up including Steve Smith, Luke Strobel, Filip Polc, Brook MacDonald and Lewis Buchanan.

 

 

 

Most of you guys know Steve, Luke and Filip, but maybe have never heard of Brook and Lewis. We recognized Brook first time in Maribor same time last season as him and Wyn Masters did a good show in the 4x race. Since then we had him on the screen and with his victory in the junior world champion race he proved himself.
Lew is maybe a no-name in the world cup circuit yet, but he had some good results in UK. For sure it’s a risk to get a young gun like him on board, but he already received rave reviews of his team mates.

 

After a couple of days practice Filip and Brook were able to qualify for the today’s 4X race, which happened right after the DH qualifying which turned out pretty good especially for Steve and Luke, who ended up 5th and 6th but also for Filip and Brook, who get qualified on 33rd and 54th position. Lewis had bad luck and crashed twice because of technical problems and hasn’t been able to qualify for his 1st world cup- even this is for sure not what he expected he still enjoys the team’s confidence and we are looking forward to see him in the next world cup which takes place in Fort William/ SCO.

 

Right after the DH qualification Filip and Brook where competing in the 4X race. They were qualified 11th and 23rd and met in the 1st and 2nd heat, but drop out against Slavik and Graf- Filip got 18th and Brook 27th… get here for the results.

…some words of Filip:
It was cool to have another urban race on Schedule. After all winter i really like this stuff.
Basicly the history of urban downhills started in Lisabon. It was before 11 years.
Track was similiar to the last year one, but we had another big surprise!!! The weather was really shit. The day started with storm and rain, which is a bit scary for a DH race on paved streets.
It was sketchy, i decided to hold on the power horses and avoid injuries, as I have seen during practice it was really easy to touch the ground. Like the other top-pilots, we didn’t take too much risk !
After easy qualy run where i took 2nd spot I was scared to go even faster in the final run. My plan was still the same. To stay save and not to scrash. I had quite nice run, just small mistakes and i took 4s of my qualy.
I finished 2nd.
At the end I was happy even I lost just 0,05s of the local kamikaze rider. But was nice to be on the podium in the front of all top pilots.
