STARTING BID OF 1 € FOR FORMULA 1 RACING CAR & 54 MORE EXHIBITS like Markus Stoeckl’s skinsuit and helmet of his highspeed record ride.

Formula 1 racing car, Dakar-winning KTM bike and exclusive sports equipment which has never thought to be on sale ever will be sold at the Wings for Life Charity Auction on eBay from March 13-30, 2008.

A Formula 1 racing car, the current Dakar-winner’s KTM bike, Robby Naish’s kite surf equipment, helmets from Thomas Morgenstern and Adam Malysz, Nicky Hayden and Shaun White – all of these items are original, signed and starting at 1 euro each. These and numerous other exhibits which have never thought to be on sale ever will be sold in March 2008 at an unprecedented charity auction on the eBay online marketplace. The revenues from the auction will go to the Wings for Life spinal cord research foundation.

3… 2… 1… Gone! – Those who are lucky here will receive something which is second-hand and has already been used, but which is also absolutely unique. Motorbike helmets from world champions Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa, ski-jump helmets from Olympic champions Adam Malysz and Thomas Morgenstern, equipment from Dakar winners and world-record holders, B.A.S.E. jumpers and surfing legends. One piece of equipment, however, makes even hard-core eBayers gape in amazement: A replica of David Coulthard’s original Formula 1 racing car, the same as the one he competed with in the 2007 Grand Prix in England, will be sold at the eBay auction on March 23, 2008. Believe it or not, the premier class in motor racing will be available at a starting bid of 1 euro on eBay.

“Supported by numerous athletes, we will sell absolutely unique exhibits from the world of sports, and the revenues from the auction will be used to make further progress in the field of spinal cord research”, explains founder of Wings for Life, Heinz Kinigadner, enthusiastically. “When we started to ask for a few unusual items we soon came to realise that these people were more than willing to give us some of their personal memorabilia and trophies.” This way, more than 50 items – for example from the world of Red Bull – were gathered, catalogued and photographed, and will be offered for sale between March 13 and 30, 2008. During this period, the online marketplace eBay will become the global auction platform for the Wings for Life charity organisation. It remains to be seen if David Coulthard, Hermann Maier, Robby Naish and Travis Pastrana will be among the more than 100 million users, too. One thing is certain, however – they all contributed their share to the auction.

Even those eager to be up in the air will have their chance at the charity auction. A Red Bull Air Race Package for two persons including a flight will be on sale just as two city sightseeing flights in the Flying Bull’s historic DC 6 and B-25J aircrafts.
Riding the waves like a pro with the board of a legend under your feet, being faster on your bike with the helmet of a six-fold Ironman Hawaii winner on your head or start carving like a god just because you’re riding the skis of an extreme skier – however, even those who treat these unique items with kid gloves and just put them in a show case can be sure to have contributed to helping more than 2.7 million people. This is the number of those who are bound to a wheelchair worldwide after having suffered a spinal cord injury. Every single euro from the Wings for Life Charity Auction will be invested in research activities and contributes to further progress being made.

The Wings for Life private foundation pursues one great goal: making sure that paraplegia no longer is a question of fate. Since 2004, the foundation supports international top scientists who are working on promising research projects which aim at finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. Being a non-profit organisation, the foundation depends on private donations, 100 percent of which are directly invested in research activities.

Actually he feels pretty good on his new bike but the development moves forward and so they already reach a nice weight level with about 38 lbs (which is 17.23 kilos). The setup still offers some options to get the weight down like cranksets, titanium spring, etc.

Matti is working hard to find his race setup and so his days are pretty work focused at the moment: testing different geometries, suspension setups with the Manitou RD Team and the newest parts of Titec…

Markus Stoeckl, owner of MS-RACING, has been nominated for the «Laureus World Sports Award» in the category of action sports. Joined by mountain bike downhill world champion Sam Hill he made it among the last ten athletes, including big names like Shaun White (snowboard) or Simon Dumond (freeskiing). Unfortunately neither Sam nor Markus could advance into the final round of the top six nominees.

Since the first «Laureus World Sports Award» ceremony in 2000 a couple of mountain bike athletes like Anne-Caroline Chausson (2003 & 2004), Darren Berrecloth (2005) and Gunn-Rita Dahle (2005) have been nominated for the award in the alternative/action sports category. But none of them could ever win the trophy – except for Shaun Palmer in 2000, although he wasn’t nominated for mountain biking.

Hopefully there are going to be more nominees out of the sport of mountain biking in the future. It’s about time for athletes, such as Sam Hill and Markus Stoeckl, to get recognized and respected for their efforts and victories, also outside the world of mountain biking.

MS-Intense Factory-Racing adds the 17-year-old U.S. American super talent from California to the team, already consisting of Matti Lehikoinen (FIN), Anneke Beerten (NED) and Mio Suemasa (JPN). With a second place in the junior’s downhill finals at the 2007 world championships in Ft. William (UK) J.D. proved his extraordinary racing skills. Earlier in the year, when he took the overall win at «Ray’s 3 Ride» mountain bike contest he already beat a bunch of the 26-inch elite.

MS-Racing owner Markus Stöckl and team manager Lukas Haider consider J.D.’s giftedness to be a solid and promising basis for the 2008 World Cup racing season. Challenging the world’s racing elite will give the American young gun a chance to improve and grow into a serious contender within the mountain bike racing scene.

Intense owner Jeff Steber stated: «Intense is thrilled to have J.D. on the Factory Racing program. My goal is to help develop a U.S. rider to the top ranks in World Cup racing and I think J.D. is an excellent choice. J.D.’s exceptional and well rounded skills, enthusiasm & style are in tune with Intense’s passion for racing and will be an asset to the team»

J.D. will race the first competitions on his new Intense bikes at the Sea Otter Classic festival in April 2008.

Actually Anneke stays in the US for doing some BMX races. While she was in California she took the chance and grab her 1st Intense Bike…

She lost her heart to her new bike, which is a 20” Intense race BMX. Anneke:” The bike just feels really good. It is light and easy to handle on the track. I got used to it very easy and I’m looking forward to my first race on this bike, which is going to be next week.”

Anneke try to profit from some BMX races during the wintertime to get ready for the 2008 4X season with the goal to defend her 4X overall title and going for the world championship gold medal. Stay tuned….
